More than 80 participants gathered on 26th Nov 2008 for the inaugural launch of Rotary Health Safety & Environment (HSE) Symposium. The event saw REL and two of its subsidiaries, Rotary IMC Pte Ltd and Rotary Electrical Company Pte Ltd, receiving bizSAFE partner certification from Mr Samuel Tso, Executive Director of Workplace Safety and Health Council (WSHC).
The participants were senior management staff of REL's subsidiary companies as well as its business partners, including sub contractors and vendors. It was an ideal opportunity for REL to introduce them to the bizSAFE level 1 workshop for CEO and Top Management. By virtue of their presence and participation at the Symposium, these companies would have achieved Level 1 bizSAFE grading.
Another highlight of the event was the signing of REL's newly revised HSE policy. Led by REL's Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Chia Kim Piow, all 80 participants threw their weight behind the charter and endorsed the policy.
In Chairman's speech, he emphasized the importance of adhering HSE policy with guiding principle that is "Safety First is Safety Always", secondly to "promote leadership by example" to focus on HSE excellence and thirdly "we educate and inculcate safety at awareness at grassroots level" with Rotary's on-going HSE programs that seeks, to inform, to educate, to remind, to reinforce our principles. Ending his speech, he seek everyone to work together to change for the better - more specifically, to promote a safety culture that will lead to zero worksite incidents.
